My quest often leads me to discover places that allow me to disconnect from the relentless noise of everyday life and, in turn, reconnect with my inner self. My recent journey brought me to Anand Sarovar – Lake Retreat in Bhandardara, a destination that turned out to be exactly the kind of hidden gem I had been searching for.

A Serene Escape from Mumbai

Located just 170 kilometres from the bustling city of Mumbai, this charming retreat is beautifully nestled on the banks of a serene lake. The gentle whispers of nature offer a sense of peace, and time appears to stand still. This setting allows for a much-needed escape from the chaos of urban living.

A Room with a View

During my stay, I was fortunate enough to occupy one of their lake-facing rooms. Each morning, I was greeted by breathtaking views. Waking up to the sight of the sun rising over the tranquil waters, casting a golden hue across the sky, was nothing short of magical. The atmosphere was imbued with a sense of calm that enveloped me, making every moment feel special.

Unique Experiences Await

The retreat goes above and beyond to create unique experiences for its guests. They offer romantic candlelight deck setups (because even solo travellers deserve a little mood lighting!) and private BBQs that allow for a personalized touch to one’s stay. I spent my days wandering through scenic forest trails, enjoying peaceful boating sessions during sunset, and simply soaking in the stillness of my surroundings—a rare luxury in our fast-paced, often overwhelming world.

Comfort and Hospitality

The accommodations were not only spacious and impeccably clean, but they also opened up to stunning panoramic views of the lake. This allowed me to immerse myself in the beauty of nature right from my room. What truly elevated my experience at Anand Sarovar, however, was the exceptional hospitality I encountered—warm, attentive, and genuinely heartfelt. While I did notice some areas where service efficiency could be improved, particularly if they aim to compete with higher-end luxury standards, the sincerity and dedication of the staff more than compensated for any minor shortcomings.

Their willingness to go the extra mile to ensure my comfort and satisfaction truly stood out. The culinary offerings were equally delightful; the food was fresh, homely, and comforting. It was exactly what one craves after a long day of exploring nature or enjoying an evening by the lake, providing a perfect balance to the overall experience.

You can also take a train from Mumbai to Kasara Station (on the Central Railway line). From Kasara, Anand Sarovar is about 60 km away. It's best to pre-book a roundtrip cab from Kasara to the property, as local transport options are limited.

The Umbrella Falls are formed under the Wilson Dam. The force by which the water falls on the naturally placed rocks gives an impression of an umbrella.
